Community connections
Connecting with our communities in meaningful and tangible ways is at the core of who we are at Shire. We recognize and value that the impact we as individuals and as a company can have on the lives of others is significant. We focus our connections in several areas – neighborhoods where we have a significant presence; therapeutic areas where we discover and develop medicines that help patients and their families; and on projects that support youth, education, health, and economic development issues that benefit underserved audiences. It’s the spirit of our Brave culture combined with the passion of our employees to help others that drives our desire and our decisions around how connect with our communities.
We are proud of how we partner with the communities we belong to – not only the neighborhoods where we live and work, but the advocacy and patient organizations that our aligned with our purpose of enabling people with life-altering conditions to lead better lives. Our aim is to make an impact – on people managing their health, on children who need educational support, and with not-for-profit advocacy organizations that are championing the needs of patients and their families, among others.
Seeing is believing
In June 2011, our CEO Angus Russell convened a group of business leaders in London to explore how business can better help the nation’s most vulnerable young people get into work.
