Responsibility at Shire

"Responsibility is about ensuring we are able to continue to deliver value to patients, healthcare systems, and society as a whole - both now and into the future."

We believe that there’s a better future for the people we help. And for us that means being brave enough to do things differently.

It’s why we develop pioneering treatments and services for symptomatic conditions in specialist areas of unmet need. And we take great pride in doing it because we know this approach can deliver valuable help to patients, their families and caregivers, and society overall.

We talk about keeping the patient at the heart of everything we do here at Shire, and the weight of that responsibility is always at the forefront of our minds. Many of the people who use our treatments count on us to improve their lives. That’s why when we talk about responsibility we talk about working in a way that ensures we are able to continue to deliver value to patients, healthcare systems and society as a whole. For us responsibility is about creating a sustainable business with a vibrant, inventive and ethical culture that will help people lead better, fuller lives today, tomorrow, and well into the future.

We care about who we are and the legacy we leave behind. Through our many community initiatives, we’re making a difference by supporting programs ranging from the education of young scientists to helping vulnerable young people.  Responsibility means having a long-term commitment to patients and to the conditions our medicines and devices treat, as well as the communities in which we live and work.

Ultimately, it all comes down to our people. This is why we strive to conduct ourselves in a manner that secures our future, and constantly ask ourselves, “what’s the right thing to do?”
