Shire started life as a company with a special expertise in treating ADHD, or attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder. Over 13 years on, we’re still one of the leaders in this field, with a portfolio of therapies which are available in different markets across the world.
Our product pipeline
We have an expertise in developing medicines for patients treated by specialist physicians, and for discovering new therapies for rare, life-threatening genetic disease.
Shire has a total of 11 projects in full development of which 8 are in Phase 2 or beyond.

Shire has also expanded into other therapeutic areas, sometimes by acquisition, and sometimes by building on our existing R&D capabilities.
Helping people with life-altering conditions to lead better lives is one common thread that runs through everything we do. Another is a focus on the needs of specialist physicians, many of them working in a small number of centres of excellence in their own particular country. And a third is our willingness to organise our business round our patients, especially those suffering from rare ‘orphan’ conditions, who often have no other treatment they can turn to.
